Beyond Monster.com

The skinny on new places for finding jobs and employees.

The days when Monster, Hotjobs, and CareerBuilder ruled the roost of job classifieds — at least for software-oriented jobs — are long gone. A new generation of sites cater to every niche of the industry. Some charge relatively little for a job posting, and others are free. Here’s a sample of websites and email lists to check out next time you’re looking for a new job, or a new employee.

Tip for Companies

Do you advertise jobs on your own website? Make sure your job listings are indexed by ‘meta-job-search’ sites like Indeed and Simply Hired so they show your jobs in their search results. It’s free.

NYC-Focused

These sites cater to New York City in particular.

Professional Associations

These sites are run by organizations dedicated to particular professions.

Focused on Type of Job

These sites focus on a particular combination of design, development, and business jobs.

Freelancers

These sites focus on hiring freelancers, often using the website to connect employers with offsite workers and facilitating the transaction.

Jobs + Social Networking

These sites combine job listings with features to help find how you’re connected to the job through your network.

Aggregators & Distributors

These sites aggregate jobs postings and distribute them to other sites.
